After successfully claiming authority over the valley's ancient Central Spire, he provides free, life-changing technology to a local military outpost, effectively challenging the power of the ruling class. The story concludes with the arrival of Duchess Marceline Veyron, who recognizes the strategic potential of Alec's discovery and attempts to bring the anomaly under the control of the Veyron family.
