Despite his seven years of loyal service, he is framed for heinous crimes by the Saintess Princess Tama Sionji, stripped of his title, and exiled. The kingdom, quick to find a scapegoat, rejects his past heroism in favor of a new, curated image represented by the replacement hero, Lord Kay.
Following his exile, Rin survives in the treacherous Higan Valley, where he uncovers the Black Ledger—a forbidden, magical artifact that records the kingdom's hidden corruption, forged testimonies, and the true extent of the ruling class's manipulations. Recognizing that pleas for justice will fall on deaf ears, Rin transitions from a discarded protector into a force of calculated retribution. He establishes the Black Dawn Court in Hyen, a base of operations dedicated to exposing the systemic rot within the Kogane Kingdom.
Supported by an unlikely assembly of allies—including a scout, a fearful but brilliant archivist named Shizu Hosuki, a messenger, and various rescued witnesses—Rin begins a systematic campaign of truth. Instead of simply seeking vengeance through violence, he focuses on forced transparency. He gathers evidence regarding the Saintess’s charity fund, which is revealed to be a mechanism for coercion rather than mercy. This fund was used to hold vulnerable individuals—orphans, veterans, and grieving families—hostage to ensure the loyalty of their loved ones and to silence potential whistleblowers.
Key confrontations unfold as Rin systematically dismantles the power structures supporting Princess Tama. He targets institutions like Surumi Hall, where the kingdom's corrupt examiners and physicians facilitated the fabrication of evidence.
